Akseki Central Mosque
The Akseki Central Mosque stands in the Demirciler neighbourhood of Akseki, a mountain town in Antalya province that once served as an important staging post for trade between the Mediterranean coast and the Anatolian interior during the Seljuk and Ottoman periods. The mosque dates from the 1890s, placing its construction in the final decades of Ottoman rule before the founding of the Turkish Republic. Akseki is unusual among Anatolian towns for having kept so many of its centuries-old buildings intact, and the mosque reflects the modest stone-and-timber building traditions of the district rather than the grand imperial style found in major Ottoman cities. It continues to serve as a working mosque for the town centre and stands as one of the surviving markers of Akseki's late Ottoman-era townscape.
