Alabota

Alabota – a lake in the Esil basin.

Hydrography

Its length is 8.4 km, width 5.1 km. The deepest point is 8.5 m. The lake area changes with rainfall. The average surface area of the water is 36.0 km2. The north‑east shore is steep (1.5 – 2 m high), the rest of the margin is flat. Reeds grow on the lake shore, and sorrel plants grow in the basin. The water is bitter. It freezes at the beginning of November and the ice melts at the beginning of April. In summer the lake basin is used as pasture for livestock.
