Alumbek Datka Museum
In the center of Osh stands a three-tiered, yurt-shaped building that houses a museum dedicated to Alymbek Datka and his wife Kurmanjan Datka, two of the most prominent figures in 19th-century southern Kyrgyz history. Alymbek Datka, who lived from 1804 to 1862, belonged to the Bargy clan and became the first Kyrgyz leader granted the title 'datka' by the rulers of the Kokand Khanate, a title his wife Kurmanjan also received after his death. He is remembered for helping unify the southern Kyrgyz tribes and for governing parts of the Fergana Valley during a turbulent period of regional politics. The building itself, raised in 1995 to mark the thousandth anniversary of the Manas epic, reproduces the form of a traditional Kyrgyz yurt across three vertical tiers rather than a single dome, with a brightly decorated interior displaying items related to the couple's life and era. It stands inside Alymbek Datka Park, next to the regional Historical and Archaeological Museum, and is easily reached on foot or by public transport in central Osh.
