Arthur Mkrtchian museum of Hadrut's nature
The Hadrut local history museum, named after Artur Mkrtchyan, was founded in 1984 under its first name, 'Dizak,' with Grigory Mardanyan as founding director. It was later renamed in honor of Artur Mkrtchyan, who directed the museum from 1986 to 1991 before going on to become the first chairman of the Supreme Council of Nagorno-Karabakh. The museum grew to hold more than 7,600 items across six exhibition halls covering the region's history from antiquity to modern times, including archaeological finds, ethnographic objects, and material on the area's natural environment. One dedicated hall presents the flora and fauna of the Hadrut district alongside material on the Stone Age period, combining natural-history and archaeological displays. The museum also includes a section commemorating local people who died in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, with accompanying photographs, making it both a regional natural-history collection and a memorial institution.
