Beethoven Memorial Hall
The Beethoven Memorial Museum, also known as Beethoven Memorial Hall, Hungarian: Beethoven Emlekmuzeum, is a museum in the Brunswick Castle in Martonvásár, Hungary. It is located 32 kilometres from the capital Budapest.
The museum is dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven and displays various memorabilia of the composer, including a lock of hair. A sculpture of his head hangs on the façade and in the garden stand several statues of him. There are also various items related to the Brunswick family on view, such as a piano. In addition there is a small lake with an island. On it a stage has been built where concerts are regularly held in summer. There is also a statue of Beethoven about three metres high that looks down on the audience.
Beethoven was a friend of Franz Brunswick. In the year 1800 he was a guest at his castle. The Hungarian Academy of Sciences is now housed there. The music-scientific institute of the academy is the manager of the museum.
