Belsőszusz Lake is located on the southwestern part of the Cserhát, on the plain below Naszály Hill, and its water is supplied by the Sinkár stream. Its shallow water, which warms easily, is surrounded by reeds.

Origin of the name

Its name derives from the Hungarian word szusz, szuszog. Meaning: breathing, breath.

Geography

It lies between the northern foothills of Naszály. The landscape of the area is defined by the hills of Naszály and Cserhát. Belsőszusz Lake was formed by the widening of the Sinkár stream. It can be reached via secondary road 2114 between the settlements Ősagárd and Keszeg.

Geology

The area was covered by sea in the geological third period. Its formation is related to sedimentation, followed by uplift and erosion, and the deposition of gravelly sediment from the ancient river network. The terrain was fragmented by crustal movements at the end of the third period, creating various valleys, basins, and faults that defined the present watercourse lines. Along geological faults in the Sinkár valley, Triassic layer plates are found.

Hydrology

The water level decreases in summer due to evaporation and rises in autumn and winter depending on precipitation. The lake's water is supplied by the Sinkár stream.

Belsőszusz Lake in art

Hungarian artists discovered the lake's beauty in the 2000s. Visual artist Endre Koronczi created several outdoor installations on or near the lake shore, whose photographic and video documentation is presented in exhibition spaces.
