Binagadi IV period flora and fauna cemetery — Azerbaijan's ancient fauna and flora cemetery

The history of the Binagadi IV period flora and fauna cemetery dates back approximately 200 thousand years. At that time, a large part of the present-day Binagadi settlement consisted of a marshy lake. Although it appeared as drinking water, that lake was an ancient death trap for extinct animals. Because the carcasses stuck to the shore attracted other animals to the lake as easy food. As a result, the number of victims in that area constantly increased. Later, the marshy lake, in a period unknown to science, was exposed to erosion and turned into land.

In the modern era, due to construction activities on most of the area, only a small portion was discovered in 1938 and was valued as a rich resource for science.
