The passage next to Legény Cave is a cave located in the Pilis Mountains within the Danube–Ipoly National Park, in the Csévi ridges.

Description

The cave is located in Pilisszentlélek, on the north‑eastern side of the Pilis mountain, in the Csévi ridges (a strictly protected area), and lies 40 m at 230° from Legény Cave, 15 m lower. The passage next to Legény Cave has two entrances situated beside the trail leading to Legény Cave. The lower, more noticeable entrance measures 0.9 × 0.7 m, while the upper one is a steeply sloping narrow, 0.7 × 0.3 m, offset fissure.

The cave, formed in Dachstein limestone, is a sloping cave remnant whose tubular conduit and dissolution forms indicate it was created by corrosion. It contains no formations, only a few condensate water gypsum deposits can be observed on its walls. The cave passage is accessible with basic equipment and no permission is required to visit the cave.

In 1990 the cave was first called the passage next to Legény Cave in the literature.

Research history

In 1990 József Kárpát surveyed the passage next to Legény Cave, and based on the survey he prepared a 1:100 scale floor‑plan map of the cave with a cross‑section. In the same year József Kárpát produced an overview map of the area around Legény Cave (Csévi ridges). The map shows the geographic locations of the two entrances of the passage next to Legény Cave (marked as Passage on the map). In the manuscript written by József Kárpát and produced in 1990 it is stated that the passage next to Legény Cave (Pilisszentlélek) is located 40 m at 230° from Legény Cave, 15 m lower. The passage next to Legény Cave has two entrances situated beside the trail leading to Legény Cave. The lower, more noticeable entrance measures 0.9 × 0.7 m, while the upper one is a steeply sloping narrow, 0.7 × 0.3 m, offset fissure.

The cave formed in Dachstein limestone is 5.5 m long and 1.5 m deep. The sloping cave remnant’s tube‑shaped conduit and dissolution forms indicate that it was created by corrosion. There is no formation in it, only some condensate water gypsum can be observed on its walls. It is dry and dusty, spiders inhabit it. The cave has not been described before. It has no particular significance. The description includes the cave’s map and an overview map of the Legény Cave area (Csévi ridges).

The 1991 manuscript written by József Kárpát mentions that the passage next to Legény Cave (Piliscsév) is 6 m long and 1 m deep. In 2002, on behalf of the Cave Research Institute, two members of the Ariadne Karst and Cave Exploration Association, Richárd Kovács and Evelin Szabó, surveyed the passage next to Legény Cave with the cave cadastral number 4840‑77. Based on the survey, Richárd Kovács prepared the cave plan map with two cross‑sections and a longitudinal section map. According to the survey, the cave is 5 m long and +2.5 m deep. In 2002, Richárd Kovács also prepared a map on which the passage next to Legény Cave and the Snail‑hole plan map can be seen together. The association’s 2005 report states that the passage next to Legény Cave with cadastral number 4840‑77 is 5 m long, has a vertical extent of 2.5 m, 0 m deep, 2.5 m high and 4.4 m horizontal extent.

According to the association's 2008 report, the passage next to the Legény Cave with the cave registry number 4840-77 is 5 m long, 2.5 m high vertically, 0 m deep, 2.5 m high, and 4.4 m wide horizontally. According to the association's 2009 report, the passage next to the Legény Cave with the cave registry number 4840-77 is 5 m long, 2.5 m high vertically, 0 m deep, 2.5 m high, and 4.4 m wide horizontally. According to the association's 2010 report, the passage next to the Legény Cave with the cave registry number 4840-77 is 5 m long, 2.5  m high vertically, 0 m deep, 2.5 m high, and 4.4 m wide horizontally.

According to the association's 2011 report, the passage next to the Legény Cave with the cave registry number 4840-77 is 5 m long, 2.5 m high vertically, 0 m deep, 2.5 m high, and 4.4 m wide horizontally.
