Er-Rızk Mosque was built in 1409 in Hasankeyf, an ancient settlement on the Tigris in what is now Batman province, under the Ayyubid ruler Ebu'l Mefahir Süleyman. For six centuries it stood among the cliffside ruins of old Hasankeyf as one of the town's last intact historic structures. When the Ilısu Dam project raised the water level of the Tigris and placed the old town's remains at risk of submersion, Turkish authorities undertook to save the mosque by relocating it whole rather than letting it be lost. In December 2019, engineers moved the roughly 1,700-ton structure a short distance to a purpose-built Cultural Park on the new riverbank, completing the final stage of a multi-year rescue effort. The mosque has since been restored and reassembled at its new site, preserving an Ayyubid-era monument that would otherwise have disappeared beneath the reservoir.
