Erzincan Museum is a museum established in Erzincan in 1986 to exhibit archaeological and ethnographic works collected from the region.

History

Erzincan Museum was established by the Ministry of Culture in 1986 after the Erzincan earthquake. The museum opened in the Provincial Public Library building. Later it was moved to the Erzincan 75th Year Culture Center.

Collection

The museum displays archaeological and ethnographic works obtained from Erzincan and its surroundings.

In the archaeology section, baked clay, marble and metal objects from prehistoric times, stone objects from the Akkoyunlu, Karakoyunlu and Mengücekoğulları periods, especially sheep and ram statues, and tombstones from various periods are exhibited.

In the museum's ethnography section, regional costumes, cutting and firearms, various straight bows, carpet and rug samples are displayed.

The museum exhibits about 350 pieces ranging from the Paleolithic period to the Bronze Age, Urartu, Persian, Eastern Roman, Seljuk and Ottoman periods.

The museum has a special exhibition area containing models of historic buildings that were partially or completely destroyed in the magnitude 7.9 earthquake of 27 December 1939, as well as newspapers and images from that period.

Accessibility

The works in Erzincan Museum are presented with audio description for the interest of visually impaired citizens. The museum is also included in the "Virtual Museum" system created by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
