Fatimeyi Zəhra məscidi
The Fatimeyi-Zahra Mosque stands in the Yeni Günəşli settlement of Baku's Surakhani district and is named after Fatima, daughter of the Prophet Muhammad. An earlier two-storey mosque on the site had fallen into disrepair and could hold only around 500-550 worshippers, so a new complex was commissioned to replace it. The rebuilt mosque was designed to accommodate roughly 1,800 worshippers at once and is marked by two slender minarets, each about 4 metres in diameter and roughly 42 metres tall, topped by a central dome rising to about 25 metres. The complex includes a landscaped surrounding area and centralized ventilation. As in many Azerbaijani mosques, men and women pray in separate areas, with women's prayer space kept secluded in line with local custom. The mosque serves as an active place of worship for the surrounding Surakhani district community.
