Gökçeada Lagoon
Tuz Gölü (Turkish: Salzsee) or Alikí (Greek: λυκή, Greek: the salty), also known as Tuzla, is a lagoon on the Turkish island of Gökçeada. It is located near Aydıncık / Kefalos in the southeast of the island and is one of the island's most important wetlands. It is the station of several migratory species, including flamingos.
Salt lakes are home to salt crab species (Artemia sp.), whose eggs survive the drying out of the lake. Their larvae are distributed worldwide as fish feed.
The lagoon is separated from the sea only by a sandbank and can dry out completely in summer. Since the lake's surroundings are sandy, psammophile plant species grow around it. Wind-blasted plant parts rot on the surface and form a black mud. This is believed to have healing effects, especially for skin diseases such as psoriasis. Small limestone floating on the lake has been flushed down from the sea.
