Gölhisar Lake
Gölhisar Lake, a karst lake located within the district boundaries of the same name in Burdur province. In the past it was also called Yamadı Lake and Uylupınar Lake, inspired by the surrounding villages.
In the middle part of the lake there is a peninsula of 200 decares that contains the ruins of an ancient castle.
Fishery for mullet is carried out in the lake. Its surroundings are covered with reeds, and it is a wetland area with a high diversity of aquatic plant species. The lake’s small surface and shallow depth facilitate plant invasion and eutrophication. Because the lake has a eutrophic character, a strong vegetation has developed in the water. The lake, which nicely represents successional stages, contains plants such as reed, cane, miğferi, Myriopyllum spicatum, Potamogeton crispus, Ceratophyllum demersum, Lemna gibba.
Around the lake, peat soil is extracted from an area of 3,000 decares. A nearby peat processing plant processes 6–7 tons of peat soil per year. It is the only natural lake in the Dalaman River basin. Ashes from the eruption of the Santorini volcano have been detected on the lake bottom.
The lake attracts attention because its aerial view resembles the shape of a heart.
