House-Museum of Huseyn Arif
Huseyn Arif's house-museum — a museum created after his death in the house where the Azerbaijani poet Huseyn Arif was born. In recent years, with the initiative of the Agstafa district executive authority and the House of Culture, the museum, which underwent extensive renovation, has more than 2000 exhibits. While the poet was alive, the room he used while living in the district — the bed, the table where he wrote poems, his glasses, pens, pencils, even the tea cup and tea spoon — is preserved as it was. The museum has been operating since 1993. Its total area is 250 sq.m. The museum contains exhibits reflecting the legacy of the folk poet Huseyn Arif.
About the Museum
Huseyn Arif's house-museum is located on the right side of the main highway connecting Agstafa with the city of Gazakh. The museum was established according to the Cabinet of Ministers' decision No. 692 dated November 24, 1992, and the Ministry of Culture's order dated February 5, 1993.
The museum consists of 3 rooms. About 2000 exhibits are preserved here. The head of the museum fund is Mahmud Mammadov, "Soviet Union education specialist", "Honored Teacher of the Republic of Azerbaijan". The number of staff is 8, and the number of technical staff is 7.
There are exhibits in the House Museum of the People's Poet of Azerbaijan and Turkey, many of which are gifts given to the artist while he was alive. Examples of them can be the ashik bust made of walnut wood and the copper teacups. Photographs reflecting various periods of the artist’s life are preserved in the museum. Among the exhibits there is a large portrait that was drawn by one of the prisoners during a meeting with the inmates in the prison and given as a gift to the poet. The folk musical instruments located in the museum also serve as visual proof of what is said. The carpet woven by the grandmother of Ashik Murad Niyazli, a close friend of Huseyn Arif, attracts special interest of visitors to the museum. The pictures decorating the wall of the exhibition room cover periods from the poet’s childhood onward. The diplomas and honorary decrees received by the artist during his lifetime hold special significance among the exhibits. Behind the desk with a rosary, telephone and ashtray, the poet once sat and worked on his creativity. In general, both from a historical and literary context the house‑museum maintains its position.
