Hóvirág Cave is one of the caves located in the Pilis Mountains within the Danube–Ipoly National Park, situated in the Csévi ravine.

Description

The cave is at the foot of a small rock wall in a forest on the north side of the Pilis mountain, in the outskirts of Pilisszentlélek, in the Csévi ravine, on a highly protected area. Its entrance is a broken, triangular opening measuring 0.25 × 0.4 m. The entrance of the Indication Cave is 320° at a distance of 8 m, about 6 m lower. After the entrance one can reach a chamber 3.5 m long, 1.3 m wide and 1 m high, richly covered with dripstones. On its ceiling one can still see developing young straw dripstones, a dripstone flag and hook dripstones. In the chamber one must move very carefully so as not to damage the formations, which drip only periodically.

In the upper Triassic Dachstein limestone, the cave formed by dissolution below the karst water level is characterized by pot-shaped formations. It is noteworthy that the dripstones develop on a 2 m thick rock base. At the entrance the floor consists of humus, further in clay and rock debris. Spiders and insects occur there. Some of the dripstones have been broken off and taken away by unknown persons. Permission is required to visit the sealed cave.

In 1998 the cave was first called Hóvirág Cave in the literature.

The association’s 1998 report mentions that Hóvirág Cave, located in the Csévi ravine in the Pilis Mountains, is 3.5 m long and 0.5 m deep. Further exploration is justified. It is certainly related to the Indication Cave. The report includes a map of the Csévi ravine showing the cave’s geographical location. Two colour photographs showing the dripstones of Hóvirág Cave are included in the manuscript. In 2002 two members of the Ariadne Karst and Cave Research Association, Ádám Kovács and Richárd Kovács, surveyed the cave with cadastral number 4840-67 on behalf of the Cave Science Institute. Based on the survey Richárd Kovács produced a plan map with two cross‑sections and a longitudinal section map. According to the survey the cave is 3.6 m long and 0.8 m deep.
