Hubertus No 2 Cave is a cave located on the Kápolna Hill in Csobánka, in the Pilis Mountains within the Danube–Ipoly National Park.

Description

At the edge of Csobánka, on the Margit ridge, approaching from Pomáz, the Kápolna Hill rises on the right side of the road. From the road a small path leads up to the steep, bushy hillside, at the end of which, at an altitude of 181.2 m above sea level, at the foot of a rock overhang visible from the road, the cave has a natural, irregularly shaped horizontal entrance 1 m high and 1 m wide. It is located 12 m from Hubertus No 1 Cave and 6 m higher.

The thoroughly surveyed cave is 2.5 m long, 80 cm high, extends 80 cm vertically and 2.5 m horizontally. It formed in Triassic Dachstein limestone by dissolution below the karst water level. Its spatial form is simple, the typical cross‑section type is irregular. Hornfels, globular limestone, and condensed borsite occur in it. It can be explored crawling and with a lamp.

Research history

According to the publication in the 1969 Karst and Cave Research Bulletin, in August 1969 the Speleology Cave Research Group placed fixed points in the two caves of the Calvary Hill during a camp organized in the Kevélyek. In 2000 Ákos Kocsis surveyed it and produced a floor plan with a cross‑section, as well as a longitudinal section map.

In Adrienn Szokol's 2011 manuscript there is a site plan showing the geographic location of the caves in the 4830 cave catastrophe area. The geographic location of the cave is marked on the figure. According to the manuscript, most caves of the Long Mountain group were formed by tectonic movements, such as the Hubertus cave. The Hubertus No 2 cave opens at the Margit ridge at an altitude of 181.2 m above sea level. In the 2.5 m long and 0.8 m vertical extent cave, pea stone can be observed.
