The Hüseyin Paşa Mosque in Gaziantep dates from the late Ottoman period, having been built in 1849, making it one of the more recent additions among the city's historic mosque stock, most of which trace back to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Scholarly surveys of Gaziantep's wooden minbers, the stepped pulpits from which the Friday sermon is delivered, list the Hüseyin Paşa Mosque's minber as an example of the classical style, distinguishing it from the movable and pavilion-type pulpits also found in some of the city's other mosques. This variety of minber forms is noted by researchers as a distinctive feature of Gaziantep's religious architecture compared with other Anatolian cities. The mosque remains in active use as a neighbourhood place of worship, forming part of the dense cluster of nineteenth-century and earlier mosques that define the historic fabric of central Gaziantep.
