İskele Mosque stands outside the old fortress walls of Amasra, a small Black Sea port in Bartın province. It was built in the second half of the nineteenth century, at a time when the Ottoman-era town had begun to grow beyond the medieval castle that had long defined its boundaries. For centuries, Fatih Mosque inside the citadel had served as Amasra's principal place of worship; the construction of İskele Mosque, along with a few smaller neighborhood mosques of the same era (most of which have since disappeared), marked the harbor quarter's emergence as a populated district in its own right. Its name, meaning "quay" or "landing place," reflects its position near Amasra's waterfront, where fishing boats and trading vessels have long anchored. The mosque remains a modest but functioning part of the townscape just below the ancient castle walls.
