Kayalar Mosque, a mosque located in the district of Foça in İzmir.

Construction

It was built within the castle, 200 metres northeast of Fatih Mosque. Because it has no inscription, there is no definitive information about its patron or construction year. Considering the urban development activities started by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror and its architectural features, it is estimated to have been built in the second half of the 15th century at the earliest. Its single-shaft minaret with a round body on a stone base was renewed in the 19th century and has an onion dome reflecting the aesthetic sensibility of the period.

It has a rectangular plan and its construction used rubble stone together with remains from the ancient and Eastern Roman periods. The mosque, which originally had a wooden roof, has lost its original characteristics through renovations and repairs over the years. Late-period reflections are seen in the interior decorations. Its single-shaft minaret with a round body on a stone base has an onion dome designed to reflect the 19th‑century architectural style.
