Kepenekçi Sinan Madrasa
Kepenekçi Sinan Madrasa, Sinan Emk Madrasa or Emin Sinan Efendi Madrasa, is an old madrasa located in the Fatih district of Istanbul Province, Turkey. It is currently in a ruined condition and has no function.
History
It was commissioned by Sinan Efendi, known by the adjectives "Kepenekçi", "Hoca", "Emk" or "Emin". The building, designed by Mimar Sinan, is referred to as "Sinan Emk Madrasa" in the work Tuhfetü'l-Mimarin, which compiles his works, and as "Emin Sinan Efendi Madrasa" in Tezkiretü'l-Ebniye. Although the exact construction date is not known, it was built before the year 1546, as indicated by the registration ledger dated 1546 in which it is mentioned as "Kepenekçi Sinan Madrasa". In 1914, it was recorded that, with one later added room, it had ten rooms, a nonfunctional and ruined classroom, a courtyard with a fountain and a water tower, and a basement beneath the rooms. In 1918, it is noted that it was used as a building housing fire victims. On Jacques Pervititch's 1941 map, it is marked as "ruined, old madrasa".
