The entrance to the cave is located in the outskirts of Szögliget, at a fork of country paths, at the foot of a small rock wall. The cave is not shown on tourist maps. The unsealed cave is three metres long, 0.7 metres deep, 1.8 metres high and has a vertical extent of 2.5 metres. The cave can be visited in its basic cave passage condition without a permit.

Research History

Together with the other caves of the Aggtelek Karst and the Slovak Karst, the cave has been part of the World Heritage since 1995, but at that time the cave was not yet listed in the register. In 2002, Attila Nyerges (a staff member of the speleology department) surveyed the cave, then drew the cave plan map and the longitudinal section map. The plan map shows the location of the longitudinal section within the cave. According to the survey, the Keserű Cave with cadastral number 5451-38 is 3 m long, 1.5 m deep, 1.8 m high and has a vertical extent of 3.3 m.

In the book about the karst phenomena of Alsó-hegy published in 2019, it is written that the Keserű Cave, also known as the Kis-völgyi (avasi) Keserű Cave, is 3 m long and 1.5 m deep. The cave identification numbers are: 091 in Slovakia, 5451/38 in Hungary. The cave maps created in 2002 were published in the book. The cave was surveyed in 2002 by Attila Nyerges, and then in 2002 Attila Nyerges drew the cave maps based on the survey. The maps were digitized in 2018 by Luděk Vlk. A detailed map of Alsó-hegy was attached to the publication. The map was made by Luděk Vlk, Mojmír Záviška, Ctirad Piskač, Jiřina Novotná, Miloš Novotný and Martin Mandel. On the map, where caves and sinkholes are marked with black dots, the geographical location of Keserű Cave (5451/38, 091) can be seen.
