The Kutya-hegyi cavity is located in the Nagykovácsi outskirts, in the Danube–Ipoly National Park, in the Buda Hills, on Kutya Hill. It is one of the three caves of Kutya Hill.

Description

The cave’s vertical entrance, oriented along the vertical axis, is situated on a clearing at the top of a spur of Kutya Hill, in a strictly protected area. No equipment is required to visit the cave entrance that can be viewed without permission.

In 1984 the cave was first called Kutya-hegyi cavity in the literature. The cave also appears in the literature under the names Kutyahegyi-lyuk (Bertalan 1976), Kutyahegyi-cavity (Bertalan 1976) and Uszkár-cave (Bertalan 1976).

Research history

According to the manuscript written by Károly Bertalan and completed in 1976, the Kutyahegyi cavity (Uszkár-cave, Kutyahegyi-lyuk) is located on Kutya Hill in the Buda Hills, in Nagykovácsi. The cave entrance is east‑north from the summit of Kutya Hill, at the corner of a small meadow in the east‑south direction. The cave entrance is a 1 m wide fissure. The partially covered, collapsed dolomite cavity is 3 m long, 3 m wide and 3 m high. The cavity is a navigation and touch point for tourist competitions. The part of the manuscript describing the cave was compiled based on one literary work.

The loan book published in 1984, titled *Hungary's Caves*, includes in the national cave list one cave in the Buda Hills called the Cave of Dog Mountain (Dog Mountain Cave), with name variants Uszkár Cave and Dog Mountain Hole. Associated with the list is a map at a scale of 1:500 000 showing the geographical location of the caves of the Danube‑Upland Mountains, indicating the cave’s geographical location. On 23 May 1991 the plan view map and two cross‑section maps of the Cave of Dog Mountain (cave survey area 4771) were completed. The plan view map shows the location of the two cross‑sections within the cave. The maps depict the cave at a scale of 1:100. The map does not indicate the east direction.
