Known locally as the Makka Mosque, this is the mosque of Nalaikh, a coal-mining district on the southeastern edge of Ulaanbaatar that has long been home to one of Mongolia's most concentrated urban Kazakh Muslim communities. The current building opened on 12 April 2013, funded through Turkey's Cooperation and Coordination Agency together with the Dosteli Foundation, with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan attending the opening ceremony during an official visit to Mongolia. The two-story structure places the prayer hall on the upper floor, while the ground floor houses a cultural center and the office of the Mongolian Muslim Association. It replaced an older, smaller mosque on the site and now functions as a religious and administrative hub not only for Nalaikh's Kazakh residents but for Muslim community organizations elsewhere in the country.
