Mansion Complex of H.E. Chin Van Mr. Handdorj
There is a commemorative house in Ulaanbaatar related to the activities of the distinguished Mongolian state figure Erden warrior Chin Van Handdorj.
Chin Van Handdorj lived in this house from 1913 to 1915. After 1915 the house was owned by his son Jambaltseren and during the early years of the People's Government it was occupied by the diligent minister Cerendorj until 1922.
In 1923 the house was transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts, and from 1941 to 1948 the state issued a decree linking the protection and restoration of the historic and cultural monument on the national territory to the house, and according to the subsequent resolution it was placed under the state’s second‑level protection.
Chin Van Handdorj’s house is an important monument of Mongolian residential architecture and differs from temple‑monastery buildings in planning and decoration.
The house measures 7.5 m × 16.0 m, has brick and wooden walls, a wooden roof, and is a two‑storey dwelling; the ground floor has brick walls intended for winter habitation, and the second floor, surrounded by windows, is intended for summer habitation.
In 1973, following the decision to establish a Museum of the Theatre of the Academy of Fine Arts, it was renovated from 1975 to 1977, but in 1991 it became the “Saran Khokh” children’s and youth theatre’s house theatre.
