Mausoleum of Abu Mansur al-Maturidi
Moturidiy memorial complex — a architectural monument in the center of Samarkand region of the Republic of Uzbekistan. On the occasion of the 1130th anniversary (2000) of Imam al-Maturidi’s birth, at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan I. A. Karimov, it was erected in the center of Samarkand city and a symbolic tomb was installed (area about 4 hectares). The monument is located near the Registan ensemble, between Vobkent, Gijduvan and Bukhara streets. The main entrance is through a portal on Vobkent Street. According to the project, it is divided into three parts (central, garden and utility structures), which are connected to each other by a portaled walkway. The project was created in a scenic composition, attached to the symbolic tomb building. Cascading fountains were built at the center of the portaled walkway, and the surroundings were landscaped. The architectural design and artistic solution of the monument employ the best traditions of Uzbek national decorative art. The tomb is made of baked brick, square in plan (12 × 12 meters), with a dome (height 15 meters), the dome divided into 24 small ribs, decorated with wrought‑iron railings. The upper part of the railings is filled with complex muqarnas. In the central hall a plaque in Arabic script bears the words of the great scholar’s hadith.
