By a law enacted in 1990, the reputations of Adnan Menderes and his colleagues were restored and their remains, located on İmralı Island, were transferred to the current monumental tomb in a state ceremony attended by the then President Turgut Özal on 17 September 1990. In 2011, Menderes' deceased son Aydın Menderes was also buried inside the Monumental Tomb.
