Mihrişah Valide Sultan Mosque is currently located between the Halıcıoğlu Barracks and the Golden Horn Bridge as a two‑minaret mosque. Although it is remembered by this name because it was commissioned by Mihrişah Valide Sultan, today it is more commonly known as Kumbarhane Mosque. Since it was built in the middle of the Humbaracılar and Lağımcılar barracks, another name is Humbaracılar Barracks Mosque.

History

The mosque was commissioned by Mihrişah Valide Sultan, mother of Selim III, in the middle of the barracks that Selim III built for the Humbaracılar and lağımcılar in 1792. This mosque was originally constructed with a single minaret. Selim III added another minaret to it. The mosque was opened for worship in 1793. It continues to serve as a mosque today.
