"Mir Mövsüm Ağa" ziyarətgah kompleksi
This shrine complex stands at the eastern edge of the village of Shuvalan on the Absheron peninsula, a few kilometers from Mardakan, and is topped by a patterned dome in a style reminiscent of Central Asian architecture, its interior covered in small mirrored mosaic tiles. It marks the resting place of Mir Movsum Agha, born Seyidali Mir Abutalib oglu Mirmovsumzade, who lived from 1883 to 1950. Unable to stand because of a condition that left his bones unusually soft, he became known during his lifetime as a healer credited with supernatural powers, and after his death the belief that wishes made at his grave come true has kept the shrine a popular pilgrimage site for people of various backgrounds, some of whom return afterward with gifts and donations. A handful of more orthodox believers regard the veneration practiced here as unconventional, yet visitors continue to come in large numbers. Behind the shrine lies a cemetery where Muslim, Christian, and secular graves lie side by side.
