The Chinturgen fir grove is a natural monument of about 900 hectares in Enbekshikazakh district, Almaty region, protecting a stand of Tian Shan spruce forest in the Chinturgen (Shynturgen) gorge on the northern slope of the Trans-Ili Alatau. Established on 3 January 1968, it is one of the older protected sites in the Almaty area and today forms part of the larger Ile-Alatau National Park. The gorge's conifer forest, fed by the Shynturgen River, supports an understory of wildflowers such as poppies, irises and buttercups, along with mosses, lichens and fungi typical of Tian Shan mountain woodland. The monument was created to keep this relatively undisturbed forest stand intact as a reference for the region's mountain forest ecosystem, setting it apart from more heavily used slopes elsewhere in the national park.
