The Pacsmag Lakes Nature Conservation Area, under the supervision of the Danube–Drava National Park Directorate, is located between Tamási and Regöly in the meandering valley of the Koppány River. The lake originally originated as a reservoir with human assistance. The relatively large water surface gradually became an important habitat for migratory birds. Therefore it was declared protected in 1990 and entered the list of protected areas of the Ramsar Convention. Several endangered and protected bird nesting sites are present, such as those listed on the red list:

little crake

spoonbill

sedge warbler

red heron

black stork

marsh harrier

reed bunting

or swift.

From a Hungarian perspective, a notable natural value is the Hungarian reed warbler growing here and the highly protected gypsywort.

The area is based on Cretaceous rocks, among which the deep valley cut by the Koppány River originating from Lake Balaton and the loess layer formed from river sediment determine the vegetation.
