The Pirsaat Baba pilgrimage-mosque complex is located in the Shamakhi district of the Republic of Azerbaijan, at the entrance of the city of Shamakhi, on the territory of the village of Marzendi, near the settlement of Sabir, beside the Baku-Shamakhi-Yevlakh highway, on the bank of the Pirsaat River.

The pilgrimage site is one of the most visited sacred places by the population, visited daily by hundreds of pilgrims. It is also a historical monument.

The complex also includes a mosque. In the mosque there is a prayer hall as well as ceremony halls.

History

Pirsaat Baba was a venerable saint from the lineage of the prophet.

The pilgrimage site dates to the Middle Ages — approximately between the 9th and 15th centuries. In 1918 the site was rebuilt and shaped into a tomb by a charitable person named Haji Jafarqulu.

After the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence, the pilgrimage site was rebuilt in 1993. According to other information, the tomb was restored again in 1989-90 by Sheikh Ibrahim Pasha, and in 1996 a roof covering was installed.

During the earthquake that occurred in Shamakhi in 2019, cracks formed in the walls of the pilgrimage site, causing damage to it.

At the initiative of Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and First Lady of the Republic of Azerbaijan, reconstruction and renovation work and the construction of a new mosque building began there in 2020. On May 25 of the same year, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the site, became acquainted with the work carried out within the framework of the reconstruction of the pilgrimage site, and visited the tomb of Pirsaat Baba.

On 1 November 2021, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, the opening of the Pirsaat Baba pilgrimage-mosque complex took place after its restoration and reconstruction works.
