Podbelkovoye
Podbelkovoye is a high-altitude lake sitting at about 1,900 meters on the Ivanovsky Ridge in the Ulan district of East Kazakhstan Region, roughly 8 kilometers upstream from the village of Verkhneye Tainty. Enclosed by snow-capped peaks typical of the Altai's southern ranges, it is prized by photographers and landscape artists for the clarity of its water, a quality attributed largely to the difficulty of reaching the site, which has kept visitor numbers low and the shoreline largely untouched. That isolation became a point of controversy when footage of a jet ski racing across the lake's surface circulated on social media, drawing criticism from people concerned about protecting one of the region's more pristine alpine water bodies from the kind of disturbance more common at accessible lowland lakes.
