The Postal Museum in Veszprém grew out of a modest storeroom inside the city's main post office, where spare telegraph equipment and parts began to be set aside for training and replacement purposes back in 1881. Public interest in the young institution's holdings grew sharply after a national exhibition held in 1885, which encouraged more deliberate collecting of postal-history material. The collection eventually moved to the Saxlehner Palace on Andrássy Avenue, opening to visitors there in 1972, before relocating roughly four decades later to Benczúr House, a building that had served the social and cultural needs of local postal workers since 1931. Inside, a permanent exhibition occupying the second floor traces the pioneering achievements of the Royal Hungarian Post, highlighting technical innovations and services the Hungarian postal system introduced ahead of much of Europe or the world.
