Qaragöl

The lake is located in the Lachin region of the Azerbaijan Republic. It is one of the high mountain lakes of special interest. It has an alpine landscape complex.

General information

The lake is of important hydrological and agricultural importance and is used by the local people for irrigation of sheep herds, plantations and fishing.

The dry area surrounding the lake is composed of the alpine grasslands of the high mountain belt.

The lake's ecological conditions and certain water characteristics have led to a shortage of living organisms, with zooplankton and flies (gammars) found in the lake's water.

The lake's current condition is not satisfactory, and the surrounding grassland is eroded by systematic grazing.
