The Rábaközi Museum is located in Kapuvár, built in the castle on the site of the former fortress. Its task is to present the region’s millennial past and the traditions that still live today.

Its collection includes prehistoric tools, clay vessels, and Bronze Age weapons uncovered from excavations in the area. The trace of the Romans who lived here is indicated by imperial coins, ceramics, and the Avar ornate belt buckles and jewelry. From the Árpád era, pitchers, jugs, flags, masterworks, contemporary tools, and memories of the craft world can be seen. The other part of the historical material consists of the Turkish wars’ material and written memories, as well as the remnants of urbanisation, represented by the surviving furniture.

The museum’s folklore collection is also rich. Peasant furniture made in the 19th century and the early 1900s has been incorporated into an entire room setting. The Kapuvár folk costume and shepherd carvings can be viewed.

The museum also houses visual arts material presenting the work of sculptor Pál Pátzay. The exhibition displays the artist’s bronze small sculptures, plaques, and artistic writings. Pál Pátzay’s connection with his hometown lasted until his death, and this is shown by the objects he left from his everyday life.

The museum also includes the Hanság Wildlife Exhibition of Öntésmajor.
