Rahmonquli madrasa is located on Dost Chuhra Street, and was built in 24 hijri year 1206 (1791 — 1792) by Gulom Muhammad Aminkhodja naqib. The annual endowment fund consisted of 30 thousand tangas. In this madrasa the enlightened and remarkable creator known by the nickname Ahmad Kalla, Ahmad Donish (1826 — 1897), received education. Professor Oxunjon Safarov indicated that the location of Rahmonquli madrasa is on Ko‘chai Sangin Street. This street was formerly part of Mir Qoracha Street. It was adjacent to Dost Chuhra Street.

History

Researcher Oxunjon Safarov expressed the following interesting thoughts about this madrasa: “Ko‘chai Sangin is still called by this name today. In the past it housed Rahmonquli madrasa, specialized in training booksellers and artists. Ahmad Donish’s paternal great‑grandfather Mulla Abdurahimbek taught at this madrasa, his mother’s father, i.e., his second grandfather Abdurahmon also studied at this madrasa and was engaged in copying books and calligraphy. Later, under their upbringing and influence, Ahmad Donish also devoted himself to learning calligraphy, copying, engraving and painting. Ahmad Donish’s father Mulla Nosir Sug‘diy also studied at this madrasa and served as imam of its mosque. However, this mosque is now in a ruined state; attempts to renovate it were abandoned, and someone built a bakery in the entrance. Now, in Ko‘chai Sangin, almost no old buildings remain.”
