Şamil Ekinci Museum
Şamil Ekinci Museum is a sports museum located in the Ortahisar district of Trabzon. The museum is open to visitors from 09:00 to 18:00 every day of the week except Monday.
History of the museum
The museum, named after Şamil Ekinci, a former president of Trabzonspor, opened on 23 September 1996. Previously serving in the back part of the Sadri Şener Facilities, the museum was reorganized and entered service on the second floor of the Sadri Şener Social Facilities. The museum holds approximately 1,000 cups, medals and plaques. Cups from the teams that formed Trabzonspor and Trabzonspor's championship cups are exhibited here.
Museum inventory
The museum contains 7 Super League trophies, 10 Turkish Cup trophies, 10 Super Cup trophies, 5 Prime Ministry Cups, the Cyprus Peace Cup, the Women's Football League Cup, the Yayla Cup, the Gurbet Cup, 2 Turkish Basketball 2nd League championships and many other cups.
One of the museum's notable pieces is the "Half Cup". In the 1957-58 season, in the Turkey Amateur Football Championship played in Trabzon, Trabzon İdmanocağı and Ankara Havagücü won all their matches and met in the final at the City Stadium, later to be named Hüseyin Avni Aker. The match ended in a draw, but the teams' points and goal differences were equal. This led to long discussions about what should be done. A group wanted a new match to be played. The Trabzon İdmanocağı side insisted that the match be played again in Trabzon, while Havagücü requested a neutral venue. Finally, at the Fine Arts High School located just south of the Hüseyin Avni Aker Stadium, the championship cup was split in half and two champions were declared. The Turkish Football Federation also recorded this event.
