Samsun Archeology and Ethnography Museum
The Samsun Museum or Samsun Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography, formerly known as Samsun Museum, is a museum in Samsun with exhibits of works from the Colloquial, Early Bronze, Hittite, Hellenistic, Roman and Ottoman periods, founded in Samsun and surrounding areas.
It is located in the city center, near the Samsun Governorate.
The museum building, which began construction in 1976, was opened on 19 May 1981. The stone works, such as the marble column, the column head, the stele, the lion statue, which were previously on display in the courtyard of the Samsun Motor Art School and Technical High School, were protected in this way.
The museum is divided into two sections, where archaeological and ethnographic works are exhibited. The archaeological section exhibits works from the calcolithic period to the Roman period, while the Ethnographic section displays bindals, relics, money and clock cases, handwritten Qur'ans, ornaments, weapons, kitchenware, carpets and rugs.
The new museum building, under construction in January 2016, was temporarily closed until it was put into operation.
