Sari-Khosor Nature Park

Sari Khosor Nature Park is a protected area that was established by the decision of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on 25 October 2005 in the territory of Baljuvon District, Khatlon Region. The area of Sari Khosor Nature Park is 3805 ha.

History

The name Sari Khosor has an ancient history and many meanings. According to local residents the name Sari Khosor comes from the name of the village that is located on the top of a white hill, that is “Sari Khoksor”.

Flora and Fauna

Sari Khosor Nature Park is located in southern Tajikistan. This area contains natural forest and diverse mountainous flora and fauna. In the forest grow various species of trees, especially the common walnut (Juglans regia) and other rare trees and shrubs. In the autumn season the fruits are consumed by various animals such as the brown bear (Ursus actos isabellinus), wild boar (Sus scropha nigrepus), mountain goat (Ovis vignei bocharensis), otter (Lutra lutra), Turkmen lynx (Felis lyns), snow leopard (Uncia uncia).

Relief

The relief of Sari Khosor is quite complex and differs from other regions of the republic by its diversity. Its landscape structure is formed by low hills, foothills and high mountains. A large part of the relief of this area consists of mid‑mountains, which are located at elevations of 1200–3000 meters above sea level. The altitude range of the border zone of this area is 1200–3500 m, measured from sea level.

Hydrography

This area itself determines the diversity of the ecological system of the region. The hydrography of Sari Khosor includes the Surkhab, Tira, Obi Mazor, Shurob rivers and the Pushti Bog hot spring.

Hot Spring

Another beautiful natural site is located near the village of Mullokoni. From a height of 50 meters the hot spring flows down and spreads millions of water droplets around. The spray of countless water droplets under the sun’s rays turns into a rainbow of colors.
