This small restored mosque in İznik stands near the Yenişehir Gate, across the road and to the south of the İznik Museum, facing the Nilüfer Hatun soup kitchen and the Green Mosque. It takes its name from the adjoining tomb, traditionally linked to Mehmed Muhyiddin, known as Şeyh or Mevlana Kutbeddin, son of the locally revered Sufi figure Şeyh Kutbeddin-i İzniki. Because sources give two different death dates for the elder sheikh, the tomb itself is alternately dated to the early or the late fifteenth century, and has been attributed either to the grand vizier Çandarlı İbrahim Paşa under Murad II and Mehmed II, or to an earlier namesake serving under Bayezid I. The mosque that stands today carries the date 1492, though its precise building history remains uncertain, and it continues to function as a modest neighborhood place of worship.
