The Şeyh Muhyiddin Mosque stands in the Ayaş district of Ankara province and is described by local heritage accounts as roughly 450 years old, which would place its construction in the second half of the sixteenth century, within the classical Ottoman period. The mosque is particularly noted for its mihrab, the prayer niche indicating the direction of Mecca, which is finished with decorative carved plasterwork rather than the carved stone or tile more common in larger imperial mosques of the era. Like several other small-town Ottoman mosques in the Ayaş area, it has been formally registered as protected historic architecture, reflecting its value as a surviving example of provincial Ottoman religious building traditions away from the Anatolian capital's larger monuments. The mosque continues to serve its neighborhood congregation while standing as one of several centuries-old religious buildings that give the Ayaş district its reputation as a repository of early Ottoman heritage within Ankara province.
