Süleyman Çavuş Mosque
The Süleyman Çavuş Mosque stands in the town centre of Kaş, on Turkey's Antalya coast, and is considered the oldest mosque still standing in the district. It was built in 1932, in the early years of the Turkish Republic, funded by a local benefactor known by the nickname Süleyman Çavuş (Süleyman Yıldırım). The mosque has a single minaret and is built of stone and timber in the plain, functional style typical of early Republican-era religious architecture in small Anatolian towns. It stands within a zone protected for its historic and archaeological value, reflecting Kaş's long settlement history on the site of ancient Antiphellos. A restoration completed in 2022, funded through the Antalya governorship, stripped later cement render from the mosque's facades and revealed the original stone walls, which measure some 65 centimetres thick, along with other features altered by earlier repairs.
