Taceddin Sultan Mosque is a mosque located in the Altındağ district of Ankara province. The building, which is situated on the main campus of Hacettepe University, is thought to have originally been a complex when it was first constructed. Today, this area includes the Taceddin Sultan Mosque and its adjacent tomb, a fountain that does not flow, a cemetery, and the Tacettin Dergah, which is now used as the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Museum House.

The grave of Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu is located in the courtyard behind the mosque, while the graves of Nuri Pakdil and Mehmet Doğan are in the mosque garden.

History

There is insufficient information about the founder of the Dergah, Tâceddinzâde Mustafa Efendi. It is thought that he was a disciple of the Celveti sheikh Aziz Mahmut Hüdayi. There is not enough information about the initial construction of the Dergah buildings, but it is known that they were made of earth and wood. Documents from the Sultan Abdülmecid period suggest that various repairs and reconstructions took place and refer to the mosque, tomb, Dergah, and dervish rooms, indicating that these structures formed a complex. By a decision taken in 1892, it was decided to demolish the mosque, minaret, and tomb and to rebuild them, funded from the imperial treasury by Sultan Abdülhamid II. As understood from the inscription on the entrance door of the tomb, this construction process was completed in 1901. It underwent various restoration works in 1988 and 2008.

Architecture

It is built of cut stone and has a rectangular plan. The tomb located on the west of the mosque and the minaret on the east are made of red andesite stone. It was constructed on a north–south axis. Each façade has two windows. The tomb and the mosque were built with cut stone and rubble stone material. The tomb is smaller and lower than the mosque. The base of the minaret is square, and its shaft is cylindrical and has a single balcony.
