Taşhan, Tokat
Taşhan (Voyvoda Han), a 17th‑century Ottoman building located in the historic city centre of Tokat. It is situated on Gaziosmanpaşa Boulevard.
It is a north‑south oriented, rectangular‑plan, two‑storey structure made of cut stone and brick, with an open courtyard. On the north and east sides there are doorless shops with open‑air stalls inside, while on the south and west sides there are also doorless shops. Access to the second floor is on the right and left at the end of the entrance corridor. On the second floor all rooms open onto a salon. Above the entrance there is a domed space protruding from the consoles. Each room has a window opening to the outside, a fireplace and a niche.
Today the courtyard of the 112‑room building is used as a tea garden, and the rooms serve as handicraft shops and workshops.
From the mid‑1600s Tokat became a voivodeship. Because it is one of the works contributed to the city by the voivodes, Taş Han is also called "Voyvoda Han".
In the courtyard of the han there is a fountain decorated with figures and motifs. The fountain is thought to have been built in the 19th century or later.
After the 1939 earthquake, part of the eastern arcade vaults and the courtyard colonnade were destroyed; the han remained closed and isolated from the city from 1997 to 2007. In 1998 it was tendered for hotel construction, but the tender was cancelled at the initiative of the General Directorate of Foundations. Restored in 2007 to its original state, it began to be used with a new function.
There are a total of 103 event spaces, 76 of which are open and the rest closed.
