Taxtakörpü SA

Taxtakörpü reservoir — a reservoir belonging to the Samur-Abşeron irrigation system. It was built in the territory of the Shabran district of the Republic of Azerbaijan within the framework of the reconstruction project of the Samur-Abşeron irrigation system.

History

Construction began in 2007. The project, for which "Meliorasiya və Su Təsərrüfatı" ASC was the client, was carried out by a consortium led by the economic entity called "Azərkörpü" – now the European-Asian Construction Corporation "Evrascon" Open Joint-Stock Company. A formal ceremony was held on 19 July 2013 on the occasion of the start of water supply to the Taxtakörpü reservoir. Water taken from the Samur River is transferred to the Taxtakörpü reservoir via the Vəlvələçay-Taxtakörpü channel.

Opening ceremony

The opening ceremony was held on 28 September 2013. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva participated in the opening ceremony.

Technical specifications

The area of the Taxtakörpü reservoir is 8.71 square kilometres. The total water capacity of this facility is 270 million cubic metres. The usable water volume of the lake is 238.4 million cubic metres. This hydro-technical facility, which is an earthen dam, has a base width of 754 metres and a height of 142.5 metres. The Taxtakörpü reservoir is the highest earthen dam reservoir in Azerbaijan. It is also one of the highest earthen dams not only in the region but also in Europe. The length of the spillway is 891 metres, the length of the water intake structure is 43.6 metres, and the length of the energy tunnel is 543 metres. The gate shaft is at a depth of 56 metres. A modern lighting system has been installed here, and the roads in the area have been paved with asphalt. Along the road leading from the Baku–Russian Federation state border main highway to the Taxtakörpü reservoir, as well as throughout the entire area, large-scale landscaping and greening works have been carried out. More than 23 million cubic metres of earthwork have been performed in the body of the Taxtakörpü dam alone.
