Tunceli Museum was allocated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2015 as Tunceli Museum. The museum was established in 2019 as the Tunceli Museum Directorate and was subsequently restored and opened to visitors on 24 December 2020.

History

The building allocated as Tunceli Museum was constructed as a military barracks between 1935 and 1937. It was used as a military barracks until 1949 and then handed over to the Ministry of Finance. The building transferred to the Ministry of Finance was used as civil servant housing between 1949 and 1990. Approximately 65 families lived there until February 2015. The reason the museum building was registered by the Erzurum Cultural and Natural Heritage Protection Regional Board is that it carries the characteristics of the Early Republican Period.

The Tunceli Museum building, whose restoration was completed in 2019, has a square shape and a closed area of 5,800 m². The north façade is three stories high, while the east, west and south façades are two stories high. The building, constructed in the German architectural style, has a courtyard of 1,800 m² designed to host various activities such as concerts, theatre and lectures.
