The Fire Museum or the Central Museum of Disaster Protection is an exhibition on fire and firefighting equipment and activities in Budapest's X district.

Location

In the geometric center of Budapest, in the Stone Mine, in the X. district, Martinovics Square is located under 12.

History

Since the beginning of the 19th century, several private exhibitions have been organized in Hungary by those interested in contemporary firefighting equipment, models, plans and remnants of large fireworks.

The first fire history collection was established by the Budapest Volunteer Fire Service for the purpose of a branch collection and a home museum in the late 1900s. During the years, numerous similar museums and exhibitions were established in fire departments in various cities across the country, as well as in major fire factories.

The materials of the Budapest Fire Museum were collected and organized by virtue of Act IV of 1954, which provided for the protection of technical monuments. The exhibition opened in 1955.
