Yalvaç Müzesi
Yalvaç Museum, located in the district of Yalvaç in Isparta, is a museum where archaeological artifacts are exhibited. Construction work on the museum began in 1963 and the works were completed in 1965. The museum was opened to the public on 9 September 1966.
The “Yalvaç Museum”, which was a directorate until 1975 and then became a directorship, entered a reorganization in 1998 due to the increasing number of domestic and foreign tourists over the years and was adapted to contemporary expectations. Reopened to visitors on 16 July 2000, the museum today has significant potential in the Lakes Region both in terms of artifact richness and visitor numbers.
In the archaeology section of the museum there are many items dated between 2500 BC and the 3rd and 4th centuries AD. These items consist mainly of ceramics, figurines, statues, busts and glass objects. Many of them are artifacts uncovered from Antioch, Pisidia. In addition, the museum also holds ethnographic examples of handicrafts belonging to the local cultures of the region. One of the rooms is dedicated to manuscripts and another to works of contemporary painters. In the garden area, low reliefs, sarcophagi and tombstones are displayed.
The museum, consisting of a Prehistory gallery, a classical hall, an ethnographic hall, a sub‑gallery exhibition and a garden, is located in the centre of Yalvaç and is open to visitors every day except Monday from 08:30 to 17:30.
According to the 2010 data of the Isparta Directorate of Culture and Tourism, Yalvaç Museum houses a total of 26,255 items: 3,133 archaeological artifacts, 1,626 ethnographic artifacts, 20,738 coins, 91 seals, 16 manuscript works, 60 fossils and skeletons, and 591 medals‑medallions‑badges.
