Yangykala Gorge is a gorge in Turkmenistan.

Location

The gorge is located about 160 kilometers north of Balkanabat and 160 kilometers east of Turkmenbashi city, which is located on the Caspian Sea. The region is characterized by the Karakum desert and has a very arid climate. In the vicinity of Yangykala Gorge there are other, less well-known gorges, such as Yangisuw Gorge.

The characteristics

5.5 million years ago, the limestone was dug out of the Amu Darya River, creating a deep gorge called Yangykala Gorge, which left behind bizarre rock formations, and the colorful limestone deposits in the gorge gave the gorge the nickname Grand Canyon Asia, after the Grand Canyon in the United States.

Tourism

The gorge is considered one of the most impressive attractions in Turkmenistan, but due to its difficult accessibility, large tourist flows remain untouched.
