Yeşil Mescit
Yeşil Mescit (Gencezade es-Seyyid el-Hac Mahmud Bey Mescidi), a 18th-century prayer house located in the Tepebağ Neighborhood of Adana, named after the green tiles covering its dome.
It is a single-room place of worship made of yellow limestone, with a square plan measuring 9.5 meters by 9.5 meters. Because it was built on a sloping terrain, a cellar with four steps leading down was created beneath it.
The mescit was commissioned by Gencîzade es-Seyyid el-Hac Mahmut Bey. Researchers have given different dates for its construction: 1746-1748, 1751, 1752, 1753.
Yeşil Mescit is part of a complex consisting of a mescit and a madrasa, but the madrasa has not survived to the present; remains of the madrasa are found on the north side.
The courtyard of the mescit is entered through a crowned gate located in the northeast corner; the mescit is entered through a low arched gate on the south side of the courtyard. A mihrab is located in the middle of the south wall. The dome of the mescit, built with cut stone, is covered with green tiles. All decorations are made of stone.
The building underwent repairs in 1941 and 1965.
